Dating Profile Tips: Photos and Bios That Work
Your profile does the talking before you do. A few changes to your photos and bio can make a big difference to who you match with, and how good the conversations are.
Choosing photos
- Make the first photo a clear, smiling headshot with natural light.
- Add a full-length photo so people see the real you.
- Show a hobby or interest: cooking, hiking, playing music.
- Keep group photos to one, and make it obvious which person is you.
- Use recent photos. Photos from five years ago lead to awkward first meetings.
Writing a bio
- Be specific rather than listing generic traits like "funny" or "loves travel."
- Give people a conversation starter: a question, a strong opinion, a recommendation.
- Keep it positive. A list of what you don't want can come across as negative.
- Keep it short. Two to four sentences is plenty on most apps.
Be clear about what you want
Whether it's something casual, open, or a relationship, saying so honestly attracts the people who want the same thing. It saves everyone time and disappointment.
Privacy reminders
Avoid photos that reveal your address, workplace or car registration, and don't include your surname or social media handles until you've built trust.
Refresh regularly
If matches dry up, swap your first photo or rewrite your bio. Small updates can bring your profile back into view and attract new people.
